Father Daughter Diaries with Hammer Made

Hey Merbabe, just a friendly reminder that Father's Day is just around the corner, as in this Sunday.  Father's day gift guides have never been much assistance in picking out the perfect Father's Day gift for Dan.  It is always the same old toolbox (no), weird tech gadget (no), or sports jersey (no, never ever),  my dad is way cooler than all of those things.

This year, I partnered up with Hammer Made to create my own Father's Day Gift Guide for the Cool Dad.

NYLON x Sanrio: Hello Kitty Bomber

Hey Merbabes!  The collaboration of my dreams was just released and I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of it.  Hello Kitty has been my main girl since I can remember. I had a Hello Kitty TV in my room, an HK toaster, every single book, stuffed kitty, pencil, notebook, and toy you could imagine.  I could have opened my own chain of Sanrio stores with all the goods I had.  I am a little sad that my life is not as full of Sanrio as it used to be, that being said this collection came at a perfect time.

Nylon and Sanrio collaborated to create the ultimate cool girl collection featuring your favorite Sanrio babes.  This collection was so much fun to style, but my favorite piece has to be the Hello Kitty Bomber Jacket.

Date Yourself: Become a More Confident You

Hey Merbabes!  Today we are chatting about something that has always come as second nature to me, but I have learned does not come so easy for many people, and that is spending time alone.  Growing up as an only child being alone never meant being lonely, honestly it meant that I didn't have to deal with anyone else.  I could play whatever games I wanted, dress up in the prettiest dress, and never have to share my toys.  That being said, I have always loved being alone, it has alway been something I look forward to and cherish.

I often get complimented on my "confidence" and yes I am a very confident person but it is less "confidence" and more comfort.  I am completely comfortable with myself, and I know that all stems from my ability to be alone.   I am sharing with you three of my favorite ways to spend some alone time, or as I like to call it "date yourself".

Please Drink Responsibly: Sporty Summer Fit

Hey Merbabes!  The weekend is here and I've got the formula for a sassy and sporty summer look.  I am not usually one to rock a fitted mini dress, not my vibe BUT when I saw this dress it seriously spoke to me.  It is pink, sporty, and serves up major sporty-spice sass.  This piece will keep you feeling like a 90s supermodel all summer long.

Step Up Your Summer Style: Wide Leg Pants

Hey Merbabes!  It is officially summer, which means its time to swap out your turtlenecks for tanks tops, and your flares for cut-offs.  I'm going to take a step back for a moment and say that I love winter fashion; I love layering, wearing fur, and stomping around in boots. Whenever the warm weather (finally) hits, although I am eternally grateful for the sunshine, I tend to feel a bit lost.  I never know what to wear.  Its a constant struggle of wanting to look like an effortless beach-bunny while still keeping true to your unique style.  I so often find myself saying "ugh so basic" every time I look in the mirror, but this only occurs during the summer.  In the winter, I wear sweatpants and t-shirt then throw on a fur coat and call it fashion, but summer clothes draw out the basic in me.  Being basic isn't a bad thing, but it's not my vibe.  I cringe at the thought of stepping out in a "basic" outfit, which tends to make summer seem like quite the long season.

This season I am excited to put together some looks that will inspire you to step out of your usual summer uniform.  This first look is all about upgrading your summer pant game.  I'm not talking white jeans either. Please.

Turn Back Time: George the Salon Chicago

Hey Merbabes!  You may remember I raved about my facial at George the Salon back in March...I was lucky enough to be invited back to experience the new Time Lapse Facial.  I am all about pre-anti-aging as I like to call it.  As a 19 year-old I shouldn't have to worry much about preserving my skin's youth, but as the crazy skincare lover I am, I am trying to look 19 forever.

I was excited to be back at George the Salon and see Lindsey who shared so much knowledge and insight with me last time I saw her.  I swear the beginning of the change and healing of my acne came with my facial at George the Salon.  After that facial I completely changed my skincare routine to the one I am following now, and have seen insane results.  Its hard to believe that it has only been two months, considering how far my skin has come, it was an almost immediate change.

I Love You So Matcha: Guide to the Best Matcha in Chicago

Matcha is an essential part of the Mermaid Waves diet, but not just for its amazing taste.  Matcha is packed with antioxidants, literally packed.  The antioxidants in one cup of matcha is the equivalent of drinking 10 cups of green tea, because when you drink matcha you are ingesting the actual tea leaf.  Matcha contains a specific kind of antioxidant called a catechin that contains potent cancer-fighting properties.  Your girl matcha is also known to reduce anxiety due to L-theanine that is found in the tea leaves, L-theanine is known to induce relaxation without any drowsiness.  I swear it works, whenever I am feeling overly anxious, if I can't go to Soulcycle, I drink a cup of matcha and immediately feel like I can breathe again.  Matcha also boosts energy levels due to its unique blend of nutrients, not so much the caffeine levels. Plus the L-theanine helps reduce any caffeine "crash" and the mood-lifting effects can last up to six hours post matcha enjoyment.

Juicy Juice: Early 2000's Summer Inspiration

Hey Merbabes!  I haven't abandoned you, don't worry.  I have been a busy little bee working on some v v cool projects.  Obviously I will keep you babes updated on the latest in my life but today we are talking about a look, a very serious LOOK.  Before you read this post, first watch this educational video of Paris Hilton breaking down all the early 2000's trends.

My obsession with early 2000s fashions stems from the fact that although I was alive during this time,  I was barely dressing myself.  I remember jealously looking at the cool, older girls wearing itty-bitty denim skirts with their Uggs in the middle of January while I sat bundled up in my snow pants and snow pants.   From a first grader's point of view, these early 2000's trends were the epitome of fashion.  Girls like Mischa Barton, Paris Hilton, and Hilary Duff ruled the fashion scene.  In the age before Instagram, the closest thing little Dani and other girls my age had to celebrity fashion were the celebrity style books found at the school book fair.

Tweed-y Bird: How to Wear Zara like a Fashion Girl

For some people Target is their weakness, for me it's Zara.  Last weekend I went into Zara not looking to make any purchases and I walked out of there spending my entire paycheck.  Oops.  I literally stood in line with my pile of clothes, turned to Kelly and said "at least I'm not spending my money on drugs...right?".

It is kind of funny because I had shot this look featuring some awesome Zara finds and then I read this article on The Blonde Salad, "How to Shop like a Fashion Editor".   I felt pretty cool because I totally aligned with all of the editors tips.  The first trick she shares is "how not to look like a Zara girl, wearing Zara", I like to think that this is something I completely nail.  The key is really to shop smart, go for the unique, quirky pieces that can create one of a kind looks.  I think the best way to build a totally unique wardrobe is to fill it will funky fast-fashion pieces, and supplement with high-quality accessories and basics.  As a 19 year old, I am still working on building out my wardrobe and bringing my closet out of my questionable high-school days, think mini skirts and crop tops.
